“The Mystery of Edwin Drood”
Musical - On Your Toes

“Pacific Overtures”

Donmar Warehouse, Londres • 15.8.03 à 19h30

A great production of an awesome show. They managed to make it at the same time touching, epic, inspiring and funny. Really very funny at times. I was completely awe-struck. Jérôme Pradon was a lot of fun as the Shogun's Mother. We thought the music was superb and particularly enjoyed "Four Black Dragons." But they also did a great job of "Poems" and, of course, "Someone in a Tree." "Next" has been updated to include the use of Japanese forces in the aftermath of September 11. There were a few departures from the published libretto, most notably the fact that they all wore black (whereas the libretto states that black is worn only by aides meant to be invisible) and the fact that the Reciter (who was excellent, by the way) didn't speak for the characters as much as written.
